Psyllium husks are the seed husks of the Plantago ovata plant, a plantain plant. It is mainly grown in India and Pakistan.

Due to their swelling properties, psyllium husks enjoy great popularity. Responsible for this are the so-called flosin mucus polysaccharides. These involve fibres which are capable of binding to water more than 50 times.
